The Race Losing Face?

I am a big fan of the Amazing Race. It is one of the only reality shows where you really need a half a brain in order to win. This show wins Emmy awards, it is a good show. So in order to stay on top the producers have decided to Sex it up for season 6. I have to say I am really dissapointed. Here is a blurb from the article:
The cast of the new season, premiering Nov. 16, will include five models, a former Playboy Playmate, two spinning instructors and a former striptease aerobics instructor.
Now I am all for Playboy models and fitness chicks on TV, and striptease aerobics instructor, that sounds interesting... but couldn't one show just stick with real people trying to do somewhat real things? Survivor went the T & A route a while back, Big Brother is all about sex, Fear Factor should be called "Hot Chicks Doing Gross Things Factor", and on and on... Women even go on the Apprentice just to become sex symbols, or so it seems. Oh well, I guess I will just have to try to find a smart former Playboy Playmate to cheer for when The Amazing Race 6 goes on the air...

Good Ones...

I have decided to stop writing about Survivor and The Apprentice. Why? Because.

So instead I thought I would jot down a few funny things I heard today.

A local radio personality had a couple of funny quotes this morning. That makes him 2 for the year, in my book.

Q: What do you call a group of witches?

A: The View

I was laughing like a little girl as I was driving to work this morning, I am sure all the other motorists thought I was nuts. And I guess it isn't really that funny...

OK, how about this:
"I bet Jessica and Ashlee Simpson's Dad is really proud. He gets to watch every day as his daughters try to out-stupid each other."

All right, just one more... I had to sneak a Red Sox reference in here somehow. From the Sports Guy's minute-by-minute recap of game four. I thought this line was great:
"After a Damon two-out triple, Cabrera strands him at third. Marquis has gotten out of more trouble tonight than Bobby Brown."
Ahhh... nothing like a little humour to get you going on a Friday afternoon...

Happy Halloween...

How Sweep it is...

Wow! To come from a 3-0 deficit against the Yankees and then sweep the best team in baseball (record wise) is quite an accomplishment. We have been waiting for this for a long time and it now seems worthwhile. Lets just hope it won't take that long to get back here again.

So now it's time for the business side of things to come into play. Theo Epstein did a great job building this team, now he has some decisions to make. I think now is the time for him to really prove his worth. First of all I think he has to re-sign Jason Varitek and I am pretty sure this will happen, that seems like a no-brainer. Then the decisions become a little harder. Pedro? D-Lowe? These two guys were instrumental in this World Series run, but will they be back next year? My guess is Pedro - No, D-Lowe - Yes. Money will be a factor here. At $17.5 Million and 33 years of age, Pedro will not be a hot commodity, imho, but who knows, as for D-Lowe, he earned $4.5 Million this year, relatively cheap for a good pitcher. I see him sticking around for a similar salary that will likely include some bonus clauses for performance.

I think pitching will be the key to a good team for next year. Timlin and Embree are in their final years of contracts, actually the team holds options for each of them for next year. Both of these guys are affordable, so I say the options will be picked up. Millar and Mueller are in the same boat, options that I think will be picked up.

So the key is Pedro. Do they or don't they. There are a few quality pitchers out there that could be had if the Sox cut Pedro loose. I guess we will have to wait and see, looks like this of-season is shaping up to be as exciting as the playoff run... well, almost...

One To Go...

Well the Cards sure are making it easy on us Sox fans. We all remember what happened in 86 after the Sox went up 2-0, but it is different this time. This time We Beleive.

It may have been Pedro's last start in a Boston uniform and it was a good one. Let's just hope the Sox can wrap it up tonight and put these poor Cardinals out of their misery...

Tuesday...

Well it certainly is a boring day... I just looked at the clock and I see 2:09. It feels like 5:00 to me... Oh well, I guess I can sweat it out for another few hours.

Stay tuned for some interesting news (at least it is interesting to me)... I just came up with a company name, I now have a .com and tons of webspace! I will be offering up some great deals! ;-) I plan on recounting my experience with registering the domain name and finding a good host, etc... so if you are thinking about doing the same, maybe I can offer some tips or advice... Now if I can just find the time to develop that website...

Bye Bye Halloween Skin...

I took off the Halloween skin because there were some problems. Also it got pretty hard on the eyes after a while... I am going to come up with something else, and I will make sure it works in all browsers and doesn't destroy anyones retinas...

DAMN! once again I blew away all my comments when I changed templates, and so much for Haloscan, oh well, I guess I will get it right some day...

A Fine Weekend...

Well we had a great weekend on PEI. It is always nice to go home and see friends and family. Unfortunately we didn't get any pictures, the weather was just fair, and Sunday we were feeling the effects of many beers and shots of Sour Puss...

Well, the Sox came through with two big wins, not time to get excited just yet, any true Boston fan holds out for the impending collapse, but we always have a flicker of hope at the back of our minds. Hopefully the win over the Yankees has ushered in a new era for the Sox. I see the Sox taking 1 of 3 in St. Louis and wrapping it up in game six back at Fenway.

I posted a great little joke the other day and it turned out to be a hit, so I figured I would post one more, and, of course, it is at the expense of the current president of the good ol' U.S. of A. Just a small disclaimer before I post this, I did not come up with this joke, and I did not come up with the previous one either, I was just re-posting it. I honestly forget where I saw these, but I am not trying to take credit for someone else's humour. Anyway, on to the joke:

Q: What is the difference between the Vietnam War and the Iraq War?

A: George W had a plan for getting out of the Vietnam War...

Worth a chuckle!

After numerous rounds of "We don't even know if Osama is still alive,"
Osama himself decided to send George W. a letter in his own handwriting
to let him know he was still in the game.

Bush opened the letter and it appeared to contain a coded message:

370HSSV-0773H

Bush was baffled, so he e-mailed it to Colin Powell.
Colin and his aides had no clue either so they sent it to the FBI.
No one could solve it so it went to the CIA, and then to the NSA,
then to the Secret Service. With no clue as to it's meaning,
they eventually asked Canada's RCMP for help.

The RCMP cabled the White House as follows:

"Tell the President he is looking at the message upside down".

So Much to Blog About Today...

Well last night was reality tv night, so we have to discuss Survivor and The Apprentice. In a word... Yawn...

So it's Sox - Cards in the World Series, not a bad match up at all... I see runs, many runs... This should be a fun series for us Sox fans, even though there is pressure the fact that we beat the Yankees takes a bit off. Now I know that losing is not an option, but if the Sox do happen to lose to the Cards we can still say we finally beat the Yankees... I am confident that the Sox can win this, though, and am looking forward to this series...

We are heading over to the Island this weekend, looking forward to seeing family and friends, I will post some pictures next week, if Jillian is feeling creative maybe she can top her flowers/pumpkin pics, they were a big hit...

The Halloween skin is ready to go, I am just waitng to pull the trigger... Set your eyes to stunned ;-)

Tomorrow... The Halloween Skin...

Count Floyd says:

And the Game Ball Goes to...

Johnny Damon. With an honourable mention for D-Lowe. Wow! Those two guys stepped up big time last night. History was made and now the Sox are off to the World Series for the first time since 1986. And all us Sox fans remember what happened in 1986. But this is a new time, a new team, and this is the year. I am hoping Houston wins tonight so we can see Roger Clemens pitch in Fenway again. Either way I think the Sox have the advantage, the extra day off is big. Lets throw out a bold prediction right now, Sox win it in 6...

Schilling Comes Through...

Red Sox Nation is a happy place today after a huge win over the hated New York Yankees. Some times in sports you get the chance to see an athlete perform at a higher level and Curt Schilling did that last night.

Schill's Ankle Was Sutured - Skin Was Stitched Between Tendons

Amazing. Now the stage is set for history. No team in MLB history has ever come back from a 3-0 deficit to win a 7 game series. Can the Sox do it? Well, I am not going to be so bold as to make any predictions, but I say yes, they can. Wakefield vs. Brown will be interesting to say the least, but I see the Sox winning this one in a slugfest, of the 11-8 variety...

* Note - Looks like I was wrong, Derek Lowe will start. You can almost feel the collective anxiety of every Red Sox fan in the world...

The Weekend...

We had an interesting day today, weather wise. Around 10:30 or so the skies opened up and we had a short thunder storm. The thunder was the loudest I have heard in years. It didn't last too long, however, and now the sun is shining. We got a chance to go out and take a few pictures this afternoon, Jillian is quite the shutter bug, I really like this one:

Comments are toast...

I just switched over to a new commenting system called HaloScan.

Weblog Commenting and Trackback by HaloScan.com

This will allow people to leave comments using a name if they want, instead of the old Anonymous... One of the side effects of this is that you lose all previous comments.

Friday's Reality Recap...

Well another Friday is upon us and none too soon... Even though it was a short work week this weekend will be a welcome break from the daily routine. But of course last night was Survivor and The Apprentice so I must throw in my $0.02 about the results of last nights episodes.

First off Survivor. A little mix up of the tribes gave new life to some of the players. John K, for example, must have been overjoyed by this. I am pretty happy about it, too, because he is my player in our office pool. Anyway, Bubba really dug his own grave by trying to communicate with the other team when they got together for the first challenge, Ami noticed this and was none too pleased. This former Playboy model definitely prefers being in a tribe of women only. But Bubba made a fatal mistake and he payed for it. Rory will try to plead his case next week, perhaps he is crafty enough to stick around a while longer.

On to The Apprentice. The women definitely had the upper hand going into this challenge and they seized the opportunity and kicked the men's butts. Maria really shone here but I think she is a one-trick-pony and I can't imagine her lasting much longer. Elizabeth will be gone before her, though, she just doesn't know when to shut up. As for the guys they were in way over their heads, Chris must have been thanking his lucky stars that he had immunity this week, that allowed him to slack off and oogle the models while the other guys (except Kelly) fell on their faces. Raj is smart, but he needs to learn how to control his hormones if he wants to stick around. He also needs to learn when to shut up. If you go into the boardroom you do not open your mouth unless Trump asks you a question or if someone makes a comment that is directed towards you.

Anyway, when the smoke cleared John was fired. He made a huge mistake by not taking Wes into the boardroom. He really should have taken Wes and Kevin and left Andy out. That way Wes and Kevin could have fought among themselves and taken a bit of the heat from John. I think there was a good chance that Trump may have fired Wes because he was the one who jacked up the prices. But in the end Trump made the right call again, I think he really knows what he is doing...

I have said it before, and I will say it again. Anyone who is planning on trying out for one of theses shows - Watch the previous seasons first!!!

Some tunes...

I currently have 710 songs on my computer and I listen to them just about everyday. I usually shuffle them to try and keep it fresh, but I still get tired of them sometimes. I decided to try and find some good net radio and mix it up a bit. One of my favourite stations is BostonPete.com and not just because it has such a great name. My favourite show is Forever 80's hosted by "Your 80's Maven" Johnny O'Neill. The only problem is that I find his show too short... Anyway, I also like MSN radio just because it offers non-stop music and is pretty high quality. I would never plug Microsoft unless this was good and it is, they have tons of categories to choose from...

Rock on!

Some kind of luck...

Have you ever heard the expression if it weren't for bad luck I would have none at all? Well, personally, I don't think that applies to me. I really think I am an Even-Steven kind of person. But this guy falls into a completely new category. Maybe he is a Regrettable-Rick...

And I think I will call this guy a Rotten-Richard...

I guess not...

Well we returned from the casino without any great winnings, but we did have a good time. I guess not everyone can hit the jackpot, and I guess that some dreams are just crazy jumbles of fantasy that your mind makes up. Oh well, at least we didn't lose our shirts. But next time we go we will win big, I just know it. You all beleive me, right? If not no Christmas gifts this year... ;-)

Can dreams come true?

I hope so, last night I dreamed that I won a lot of money in a really large slot machine. We are heading to Halifax for the weekend so I am hoping this dream will foreshadow some winnings at the casino... Aren't dreams fun...

One more for today...

As I sit here anxiously awaiting my afternoon coffee (They screwed it up this morning, so you can just guess what kind of morning I had) I am surfing around and I noticed something about my link to Michael Moore's blog. It is just linked to a single post... I was really wondering why he wasn't updating his blog at least every week or so... Anyway, here is the correct link for those of you who copied the link from me:

http://www.michaelmoore.com/words/blog/

He may be getting in trouble on account of some underwear. It seems to me that the Republicans are running scared, why else would they think it is a bad thing if people vote?

Like peas in a pod...

It is getting close to election time in the good ol' us of a so the debates are heating up. George W is trying to get himself back in and he is getting no help from his Vice President, Dick Cheney. We are used to seeing bush put his foot in his mouth, so I guess it is only appropriate that Cheney would blunder as well. These two clowns were made for each other. If Kerry can't win this election then he must be a bigger buffoon than Bush...

Reverse Scam...

Have you ever gotten one of theose emails where it is supposedly some high-ranking Nigerian official who is trying to move millions of dollars out of his country and he needs your help to do so? The gist is, if you provide your bank account information they will deposit the money in there and when they get to the country they will withdraw it and leave you a nice chunk as a reward. Then they steal all of your money. Obviously it is a complete scam. Anyway, I came across this site and it made me laugh. This guy will respond to these emails and get a whole correspondence going with the scammer. If you have time do a quick read through a series of email, they are pretty funny.
