The Race...

Was pretty good last night... Rob sort of rubbed us the wrong way, though, he is showing a darker side as it gets to crunch time. I realize that Rob and Amber are trying to win a race and that they really could not have helped or anything if they had stopped when the brothers rolled their truck. But the least they could have done was slow down and ask if everyone was ok. They would have saved some face at least...

Anyway, it was nice to see the brothers recover and stay in it. Ray and Deanna were not going to have much of a chance because of their differences so it was time for them to be done with it. I am hoping that the brothers can get it together and come out on top...

This is getting ridiculous...

25 coffees from Tim's since Roll up the Rim began and only one stinking donut!?!

It says the odds of winning are 1 in 9... Hellooo...

The next coffee I buy better have $1000.00 under the rim. I would also take the Plasma TV or the GMC Envoy...

Why U2 are so good...

So I am sure I will be posting and posting on the subject of one of the greatest bands of all time, U2, for the next 8 months, so get used to it ;-)

The following transcript from their Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction is just one of the reasons why they are so great. Thanks again to Jillian, for pointing this out. What would I do without Jillian?

The third Kodak moment sums it all up, IMHO:

[...]
I'm going to go on and list three Kodak moments over twenty-five years I'd like to share with you. One - it's 1976 - Larry Mullen's kitchen. About the size of the drum riser he uses now. It's a bright red -- scarlet, really -- Japanese kit and he's sitting behind it in his kitchen. And he's playing and the ground shakes and the sky opens up -- and it still does, but now I know why. Cause Larry Mullen can't tell a lie. His brutal honesty is something that we need in this band.

Second Kodak moment. It is 1982. New Haven, I believe. Things are not going very well. There's a punk band onstage trying to play Bach. A fight breaks out. It's between the band. It's very very messy. Now you look at this guitar genius, you look at this Zen-like master that is the Edge, and you hear those brittle icy notes and you might be forgiven for forgetting that you cannot play like that unless you have a rage inside you. In fact, I had forgotten that on that particular night, and he tried to break my nose. And I learned a great, great lesson that night. You do not pick a fight with someone who for a living lives off hand-eye coordination. Dangerous, dangerous man, the Edge.

Third Kodak moment. 1987. Somewhere in the south. We'd been campaigning for Dr. King, for his birthday to become a national holiday. In Arizona, they are saying no. We're campaigning very hard for Dr. King. Some people don't like it. Some people get very annoyed. Some people want to kill us.
Some people are taken very seriously by the FBI. They tell the singer that he shouldn't play the gig because tonight his life is at risk, and he must not go on stage. And the singer laughs. Of course we're playing the gig. Of course we go onstage, and I'm singing "Pride (In the Name of Love)" -- the third verse -- and I close my eyes. And you know, I'm excited about meeting my maker, but maybe not tonight. I don't really want to meet my maker tonight. I close my eyes and when I look up I see Adam Clayton standing in front of me, holding his bass as only Adam Clayton can hold his bass. There are people in this room who'd tell you they'd take a bullet for you, but Adam Clayton would have taken a bullet for me. I guess that's what its like to be in a truly great rock and roll band. Atchung Baby!

We did it! It was a very stressful morning manning the phone and the computer trying to get tickets for U2 in Montreal. But we got them! Way to go Jillian! We are going to see U2! Hotel room is booked, too...

I love it when a plan comes together...

Happy St. Patrick's Day...

May the road rise up to meet you,
may the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and the rain fall soft upon your fields,
and until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Oh yeah, and have one of these for me ;-)

Rolling up the Rim and the Race...

Not only am I 1-16 on Roll up the Rim, to add insult to injury they decided to screw up my coffee this morning. Jillian will attest, I am not happy when I get the wrong coffee. I usually go into the store because the drive thru line is always too long. But today the line seemed ok so I went for it. I should have known something was wrong when they screwed up the order of the person ahead of me. I watched her hand back her order and get another one. So when I got mine I should have checked the coffee before I drove off. So I get to work and take a sip and ... I think I got a Triple Triple at least, the sugar was actually on my tounge. I really don't understand how anyone can drink a coffee like that. I like 1 & 1 and sometimes even then they over do it. Oh well, at least I didn't have to eat 4 pounds of meat.

On that note I have to say I am now very happy that Rob and Amber are in this installment of The Amazing Race. At first I thought it was unfair, I figured that they had a big advantage and that it would make the show less exciting. Well they do have an advantage, but they have made the show very entertaining. Rob's plan last night was brilliant. He has a way of convincing people to do what he wants, even he doesn't know how he does it. Or at least that's what he says. I was sorry to see Debbie and Bianca go, they were starting to grow on me a bit, and the way Debbie attacked the meat challenge was something else. So I have to say right now I am pulling for Brian and Greg, but if Rob and Amber pull it off they will have deserved it...

Show Me The Money...

So the list of the world's richest people is out again, and I am not on it... Oh wait, yes I am, I am approx. number 362,683,824 on the list, accoring to www.globalrichlist.com. I wonder how they know all that?

Anyway, some interesting, (but sort of sad) information from the list:
  • The collective net worth of the 691 billionaires we could find is $2.2 trillion
  • Microsoft CEO Bill Gates has more wealth than the bottom 45 percent of American households combined
  • The world's 225 richest people now have a combined wealth of $1 trillion. That's equal to the combined annual income of the world's 2.5 billion poorest people
  • Three decades ago, the people in well-to-do countries were 30 times better off than those in countries where the poorest 20 percent of the world's people live. By 1998, this gap had widened to 82 times
  • Three billion people live on less than $2 per day while 1.3 billion get by on less than $1 per day. Seventy percent of those living on less than $1 per day are women

R.I.P. Bubba...

It seems that the move killed poor Bubba, the giant lobster. Too bad, but he lived a long life, I am sure it was his time...

Maybe Shark or Alli will R.I.P. Bubba properly over at RIP River

They Should Have Called Him Pinchy...

'Bubba', 22-pound lobster, to be saved

It seems as though PETA sent a letter asking for Bubba to be released back into the ocean. The funny part is this:
Another group calling itself People For Eating Tasty Animals reportedly offered Wholey a hefty price for the lobster. At Tuesday's price of $14.98 a pound, Bubba would retail for about $350.

Now there is a group fighting a worthy cause...

mmmmmm... lobster...

Don't Fear the Reaper...

A snow day today, for the school kids. Us working stiffs had to drive in through the mini-blizzard that's going on. Oh well, got to pay the bills...

On the way in to work this morning our classic rock station played "Don't Fear the Reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult. A good classic rock song. Whenever I hear that song now, all I hear is the steady cow bell that is there pretty much from start to finish, and I think that the song could have been just a bit better. All they had to do was give me more cow bell. It's like I have a fever, and the only cure is more cowbell...

Someone should do a Saturday Night Live awards show (if they haven't already) and Christopher Walken should be the unanimous choice for Best Host EVER...
