Swap Meet Louie...

So I am listening to all of my tunes on shuffle, and I just hit Sir Mix-A-Lot, "Swap Meet Louie". What a laugh... I wonder whatever happened to this guy... I suppose a Google search would do, but I will leave that up to someone else...

Anyway, most people know this guy from his infamous "Baby Got Back", but he had a lot of way better tunes than that, "Swap Meet Louie" being one of them. The gist of the song is that little Mary Pong sells fake Louie Vuitton clothes and accessories at the Swap Meet. What makes Sir Mix-A-Lot so great was the lines he used in his tunes. My favourite line from this one is when Mix says:

"I'm sockin' more fools than Patrick Swayze..."

They just don't use great lines like that anymore. When I think back to the Rap (not Hip-Hop) music that we used to listen to we had it all... Mix, Ice-T, Run DMC, NWA, etc...

How can Ice Cube go from Straight Outta Compton to Are We There Yet? It makes no sense...

Bye Bye Bolo...

I was sorry to see Bolo and Lori lose last night on The Amazing Race. It's too bad that they couldn't even stick to their own game plan, but I guess the pressure just got to them. I don't know why Bolo didn't run the ticket up to Lori. Oh well...

So now we are firmly behind Kris and Jon. We like Rebecca, but we have a hard time cheering for Adam... He really is a "Nancy Boy"... But they did overcome a major setback last night, so they may be peaking at the right time...

Jillian came up with a great drinking game last night (no, we didn't play it, we will save it for a weekend)... Anyway, what you do is watch an episode of The Amazing Race and every time someone calls their partner "Baby" you take a drink. We figure that by the time the first Detour or Roadblock is done you will be in an alcohol induced coma. This game is not for the feint of heart...

Time to Make the Doughnuts...

Who knew there was so much money in Doughnuts... I think it is time to change professions...

Krispy Kreme to Pay New CEO $760/Hour

So lets do a little math (not that math was ever my strong suit)... If you worked a 40 hour week (I know these guys work more than that, but lets keep it simple) over a 52 week year you would have a yearly salary of $1,580,800.00.

Funny, $760/hour sounds like so much more than $1.5 million. This guy would be a bench warmer in professional sports...

Back on the Winning Track...

I was 2 for 2 this weekend on my football picks. I am now only down $4.00 for the whole NFL season. Pretty good I think. I will let it all ride on the Pats to repeat as Super Bowl Champs and, when they win, I will cash out and be up a few bucks. Or I will lose and be down, but at least I will have made it through a full NFL season on one small initial bet ($30.00)... Pretty cheap for approx. 20 weeks of fun...

Loads of snow here in SJ, I had a lot of digging to do this morning before heading off to work. And the driveway is still half full of knee deep snow. I was not chipper enough to clear the whole thing at 7:30 in the morning. That is pretty early for me...

We are eager to hit the slopes in preparation for our big trip, so the snow is quite welcome. Hopefully the temps will warm up a bit, however, it is around -16°C (-27°C with the wind chill) so we are still freezing...

Playoff Football...

Ok, I admit it, I picked the Colts to beat the Pats last weekend. As soon as I turned on the TV and saw the snow I knew I was doomed. But that's ok, still lots of time to jump on the bandwagon. I am now picking the Pats to go to the Super Bowl and win it again, this time vs. the Eagles.

The two championship games are shaping up to be great, and I think we will be in for another decent Super Bowl. The Pats usually don't destroy teams they just pick away at them. It may be a tad boring, but at least the games should be close. Perhaps some fourth quarter heroics will come into play. I really like the Sport's Guy's take on this weekend: Basking in the NFL drama, my fav is number 6:
A classic collection of coaches: Andy Reid looks like the star of a CBS sitcom where the portly guy is married to an improbably hot chick; Mora looks like one of those clean-cut porn stars who isn't quite reliable enough to get his own one-on-one scene; Bill Belichick dresses like the lead singer of an '80s cover band; and Bill Cowher looks so much like Sergeant Slaughter, you keep waiting for the Iron Sheik to attack him. Just a fantastic group. If only we could get Bill Parcells' body involved somehow.
Maybe I will actually win some money this weekend...

The Real Trailer Park Boys... and Girls...

Just because they live in a trailer park in Tennessee doesn't make them stupid... does it?
Another would-be juror said he had had alcohol problems and was arrested for soliciting sex from an undercover officer. "I should have known something was up," he said. "She had all her teeth."
The case involved a woman accused of hitting her brother's girlfriend in the face with a brick. Ballin's client was found not guilty.

Yay!

I have been waiting a long time to hear those words...

Jonathan and Victoria... You have both been elimainated from the race.

Boring...

Not much going on lately... Maybe the cold weather has slowed everything down...

All     Extremities     Freezing...

It is about -15°C right now, the wind chill is about -30°C.

Strange weather indeed, the weekend was mild, rain on Saturday, temp around 12°C, just enough to get rid of all our beautiful snow. We got some of the snow back yesterday, maybe about 20 cm or so, not nearly as bad as PEI or NS... Hopefully Poley will get back in shape soon. We need the practice to prepare for our annual ski trip; this year we are heading back to Mont-Sainte-Anne and we can't wait! Last year we hit Sugarloaf and it was fun, but the temperature was outrageous. We are talking -60°F at the summit with the wind chill!

So here's hoping for lots of snow and nice sunny weather, at least for the rest of ski season...

Closer...

So we went to see Closer this weekend, a really exciting Saturday night ;-)

And the verdict is... undecided...

The acting is great, the story is interesting, but it is a very difficult movie to really like. None of the characters are likeable at all. I never thought I would see Julia Roberts in a role like this, it is strange to see her play a role where she is so vulnerable, but so unlikeable at the same time. Jude Law's character is a bit of a loser in this movie, as far as I am concerned anyway, but not in the sympathetic way. He brings it all on himself and then sort of feels sorry about it, but not really enough for you to care. Clive Owen plays a character that is also not that likeable, but he does sort of end up running the show, so he has some strength. Natalie Portman's charcater is probably the one you will end up liking the most, but she is still quite deceptive and she proves it with her little "twist" that gets revealed in the end. All in all a really good movie, but I just don't know if I really liked or enjoyed it.

We also rented Garden State on Friday night, another movie starring Natalie Portman. This was written and directed by Zach Braff of Scrubs fame, he stars in the movie as well. This is a really good movie. It is so original and fun, but it also has a great message. Don't do drugs! Well, perscription drugs, anyway. The songs in this movie are great, too...

One more movie going point to make before I am through. I bet that this is the all-time most common rant by movie-goers. Why can't people in movie theatres SHUT UP? Why do you pay $10.00 to go to a movie and talk when you can stay home and do that for free? There was this one woman in Closer and she must have been around 50 so you would think she would know better. A scene in the movie has two characters chatting in cyberspace and their conversation becomes sexually explicit, to say the least. So of course they show the words close up on the screen so you can read them. For some reason this woman felt that the rest of the theatre needed her to read them out loud to us. If it wasn't so funny to hear I would have turned around and told her to zip it. I was going to ask her if they only let her out every 3 years or so to go to the movies but I guess that would have been mean. I wonder if they have theatres where you can actually wear headphones to hear the movie? If not it is my idea, you saw it here first!

Oceans Idiot?

This is kind of funny, it seems as though we have our own François Toulour here in Saint John, but I think he is a little less talented...
Robbery suspect caught red-handed
WebPosted Jan 5 2005 11:47 AM AST

SAINT JOHN — A 45-year old man will appear in court Wednesday in connection with a bank robbery in uptown Saint John. The Bank of Nova Scotia on Charlotte Street was robbed Tuesday morning. A red dye pack was hidden in the money taken from the bank. It exploded all over the suspect as he ran away, leaving a trail of dye-stained bills and coins. Police followed the trail of red dye to the doorknob of an apartment on Sewell Street. The suspect was eventually arrested in a parking lot nearby. Police are asking people to turn in any dye-stained money they may have picked up off the streets Tuesday. They're also asking that stores not accept any pinkish-colored bills.

Back on the Blog...

Well I hope everyone had a great holiday, I know I did. We had a great Christmas day here in Saint John and then we were off to PEI on Boxing Day. It was great to get home again and see my family and friends. Unfortunately the weather didn't allow us to get to visit everyone, but that's ok, maybe next year. The snow came flying in on the 27th and didn't let up til the 28th, I think the grand total on PEI was around 50 cms. All that after a green Christmas.

On the way home I was dreading the thought of having to park on the road and shovel the driveway, especially after a late night and a few drinks. Jillian was optomistic and said that a good samaratin would have cleaned out the driveway for us, but I was not so sure. So we get home and lo and behold the driveway is cleared. The good samaratin even cleared the walkway to the front door. I was very impressed. We still don't know who it was but we are greatful.

New Year's Eve turned out to be a fun time. We were planning a small card game with a couple of friends, no need for a big party this year. The small card game turned into a big card game (11) and it was a lot of fun. I was lucky to come out on top this time so I picked up a little extra $$ for my troubles. Looks like 2005 is starting out just fine, I was even on time for the first day back to work...
