Listen To The Music...

If you have not listened to Matt Mays & El Torpedo yet, I suggest you check them out. If you like Rock n' Roll, that is... It is great to see a young, local (Dartmouth) band that plays some really nice, guitar driven rock, with a bit of a bluesy edge to it...

The highlights of their musical resume to date would have to be Cocaine Cowgirl and City of Lakes. Both of these songs are excellent and worth a listen... You can listen to the songs and watch the video for Cocaine Cowgirl on their Website...

I got to see them when they opened for Blue Rodeo a couple of months ago, and will get to see them tomorrow night, here in Saint John, and then again Friday in Charlottetown... I am also going to see Pearl Jam twice, in Montreal and then in Halifax. Is this a Summer of music or what!?

Back From Bar Harbor...

We had a great mini-vacation down in Bar Harbor, but now we are back to work, and back to reality. Oh well, all good things must end. The good news is it will be another 4 day week and then we are off to PEI for the Canada Day weekend. Some awesome concerts going on there, we will get to see 3 Doors Down and Staind... Looking forward to that for sure.

Rainy Days and Mondays...

... Always Get Me Down

After another rainy, cold, crappy weekend (weather wise) we are having about the nicest day of the year today, and of course, it is Monday... I am sitting here at work staring out the window at a beautiful blue sky pretending that I am teeing off... As long as I don't have to play Pinehurst with the US Open setup I am very happy. So far this year I have missed 4 golf games because of the weather (not to mention 4 softball games). It really is cruel to be hit with rain and cold on the days when you have a golf game or a softball game, but then on a regular old Monday you get glorious sun...

Oh well, I guess it could be worse, and I promise not to complain about the weather again this year. At least not until I miss another golf game...

Climbing the ladder...

In case I haven't told anyone yet (fat chance) I have my own website design/hosting company called elivate Web Solutions. I am working on my business cards and I am trying to determine what title I should give myself. Now, keep in mind that I run the show. I am the man. It is me against the world, so, I need a title that really lets everyone know I am in charge and answer to no one. So what I am thinking is:

Junior Vice President

OK, how about:

Weekend Trailer Park Supervisor?

Pretty wicked?

One Hit Wonders...

We have a new category over at Music Lyrics Central, it is One Hit Wonders Check it out...

Feel fre to add your favourite One Hit Wonder or submit a request.

Now remember, One Hit Wonder is exactly that. A band that had ONE hit, and no more. For example, on some lists you find stuff like Baby Got Back by Sir-Mix-A-Lot or Barbie Girl by Aqua, but I do not consider those one hit wonders... Perhaps they only had one number one hit, but they had too many memorable songs to be considered true one hit wonders. Perhaps one of the best examples of a true one hit wonder would be Come On Eileen by Dexy's Midnight Runners or I'm Too Sexy by Right Said Fred...

25th place in my first PhotoShop contest...

I am very happy with that... Check it out here: www.mikeindustries.com/blog/. You can either play the slide show, click the numbers, or use the arrows to navigate through the photos. There were over 300 entries so 25th is not bad at all for a hack like me...

Oh yeah, here is my entry:

Hit Me Baby One More Time...

Played softball last night and got my first ever complete game win. Had to ice the arm down this morning, pitching 7 innings of slow-pitch takes a lot outta you ;-)

When I got home Jillian was all excited because she found this show on TV called "Hit Me Baby One More Time". It is a show that has, shall we say, "Washed Up" artists performing. The jist is they get five artists to each perform their biggest hit, then cover a recent song. The audience votes at the end for who they think did the best and the charity of the artists' choice gets $20,000. A pretty good idea when you think about it.

Last nights acts were:
  1. Loverboy - Working For the Weekend
  2. CeCe Peniston - Finally
  3. Flock of Seagulls - I Ran
  4. Arrested Development - Tennessee
  5. Tiffany - I Think We're Alone Now
These performances were just fair, really, Loverboy and Flock of Seagulls looked pretty old, but they all really performed like they were enjoying themselves. Then came the cover songs:
  1. Loverboy: Hero by Enrique Iglesias
  2. CeCe Peniston: There You’ll Be by Faith Hill
  3. Flock of Seagulls: On the Way Down by Ryan Cabrera
  4. Arrested Development: Heaven by Los Lonely Boys
  5. Tiffany: Breakaway by Kelly Clarkson
Now I really have to give credit to all of them on the covers. The choices for some of these may have seemed a little strange, but they all performed them very well. They all put their own spin on the songs and did not try to sing them as a carbon-copy, American Idol, wannabe version.

In the end Arrested Development won and their charity got the $20,000...

Some acts coming soon are:
  • Wang Chung
  • The Knack
  • Irene Cara
  • Sophie B. Hawkins
  • Cameo
  • Tommy Tutone
  • Vanilla Ice
  • The Motels
Could be fun...

What a difference the rays make...

It is nice and sunny here today, third day in a row after weeks of rain. Got to love it... Lets just hope it carries over to the weekend. That much bad weather really gets you down, so seeing the sun shine is a nice little pick me up...

How about a little local news today:

So I won't be going to see The Stones... I would like to go to that concert, but I am getting to see Pearl Jam so that makes up for this and the fact that we are no longer going to see U2.

More crazies: Saviour-dog story all a scam

Some local talent: New music from your fav NB bands

This just in:
